This is just a personal reflection, which I would like to share with my newfound Vasaikar friends. The Konkan region extends from Dahanu, north of Vasai all the way down to North Kerala. And the language of the Konkan is Konkani. I speak Goan Konkani and I have spoken in Konkani to Konkanis from Maharashtra as well from Karnataka . And just last year, I had the joy of meeting my first Konkanis from Kerala. I was travelling by train from that state to Goa and all through the journey I sat across a Hindu family of Keralites who were communicating in Konkani. I had the time of my life conversing with them in our common mother tongue, although there were moments when we were fumbling for common words. After all, theirs was a malayalized Konkani and mine, a lusitanized version! more>>
